Rape Victim Treatment
The AAFP recognizes that while health care providers may determine which services they provide to rape victims, immediate referral should be available for any aspect of rape related services not provided by the treating physician or institution. These services should include emergency contraception, counseling to decrease posttraumatic stress disorder, and prophylactic treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
