10/20/2008 Major employers, consumer groups, policymakers and primary care advocates, including the AAFP, joined forces at the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative in Washington, D.C., Oct. 17, for a one-day summit. Stakeholders shared best practices and the successes of various patient-centered medical home (PCMH) pilot projects. A survey (7-page PDF file. 10/07/2008 AAFP President Ted Epperly, M.D. has hit the ground running championingfamily medicine's role in the quest to reform health care. In his president's address to AAFP members in San Diego, Epperly laid out a blueprint for transforming the health care system and called on FPs to "push as we have never pushed before" for change. In an interview discussing ideas for health care reform with Kaiser's Health08 Web site, Epperly stressed that primary care should be the "solid foundation" and the patient-centered medical home the "building block" for reform.

Public Reporting the Right Way
07/07/2008 Public reporting of physician quality data must be accurate. To that end, the AAFP recently joined other leading business, consumer, health insurance and physician groups in endorsing the Patient Charter for Physician Performance Measurement, Reporting and Tiering Programs. Under the charter, physicians may examine and correct their own data before the information goes public. Taking Congress to Task on Medicare Pay
06/27/2008 The AAFP has rebuked the U.S. Senate for its failure to stop a potentially devastating 10.6 percent cut in Medicare physician pay that begins July 1. The cut further drives family physicians to the brink of financial insolvency, threatening access to care for elderly and disabled Americans, the Academy says in a June 27 media statement. Transforming the Family Medicine Practice

Stopping Teen Prescription Drug Abuse
03/03/2008 It's a serious public health problem: More than 2 million teens abused prescription drugs in 2006, and most probably obtained the drugs from the home medicine cabinet. In response, the Academy has joined a new White House public awareness campaign on the issue.
